About the Author

Simon King
I grew up in Auckland, NZ and had my first chiropractic treatment after falling of a chair at the age of 6. That early treatment seemed to end my prior need for weekly blood tests that were searching for the origin of a “leukaemic – like” condition and ironically, low muscle tone.

At  the  age of 14,  the  chiropractic philosophy  that body would  look  after itself if the nervous system was working properly, seemed so appealing that I decided to become a chiropractor.

Around this time, I took up bike racing and made the NZ cycling team at the age of 17, competing  in road and track events  in New Zealand and Australia, including the Empire Games in 1980.

I started my chiropractic studies at the RMIT (then PIT) in Melbourne, being part of  the frst-ever government-funded chiropractic course. After 5  years’  full-time  study  I  practiced  for  2  years  on  the  Gold  Coast  in Australia before taking up a teaching post at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth, England, and then moved back into practice in Retford, Nottinghamshire and Grantham, Lincolnshire.

As my practice developed, I  became  fascinated  by  the  fact that certain patients  responded  to  easily to treatment  while  others  did  not  and the difference could not be explained b any known mechanism. I studied  and  became  proficient  in  Applied  Kinesiology,  a  system of diagnosis based on manual muscle  testing and became a diplomate of the International College of Applied Kinesiology  in 1996.

The theory that became proprioceptive medicine grew out of my desire to understand the facilitation and inhibition that are fundamental to Applied Kinesiology.

I have been teaching Applied Kinesiology and proprioceptive medicine to health professionals for 8 years and currently practice in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire at the Naturality Wellness Centre.
